Job Purpose

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has an employment opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to render a secretarial support service to the Senior Manager. The successful incumbent must possess the following personal attributes: ability to work under pressure, willingness to work irregular hours as indicated and meet tight deadlines. This post is stationed in Cape Town – CBD.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification) plus an accredited Secretarial/Office Administration Diploma/ Certificate; A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in office administration and rendering support services to management.



Key Performance Areas

Provide a secretarial/ receptionist support service to the Executive Manager; Render administrative support services which includes procurement and minute taking; Provide support to the manager regarding meetings; Support the manager with the administration of the budget; Analyse the relevant public service and departmental prescripts/ policies and other documents and ensure that the application thereof is understood properly; Ensuring effective flow of information/ documents through the office; Safekeeping and filing of documents; Compile reports and scrutinise routine submissions, reports and draft documents and presentation preparation as required.

Knowledge of the following: Policies, prescripts, regulations and procedures; Administration and Financial Management; Procurement Processes; Understanding of functioning, systems and processes of government; Proven computer literacy in MS Office; Communication (written and verbal) skills; Excellent telephone etiquette, planning, organising and report writing skills; High levels of assertiveness and professionalism.


R 257 508 per annum (Salary level 7) Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
