Job Description

In this position you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining systems and processes satisfying the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993, regulations published under the framework of this act and ISO 45001:2018.

Job Outputs:

You will continuously drive initiatives to improve on BMW South Africa’s Occupational Safety values. You will build and maintain good working relations with all stakeholders. You will contribute to the BMW Group targets and develop Occupational Safety targets and orientation values for technologies and departments. In your appointment as Specialist: Occupational Safety you will perform duties as prescribed.

You will advise business partners regarding legal duties and responsibilities. You will monitor Government Gazette publications to identify amendments of legislation and regulations and ensure that amendments to the OHS Act and Regulations are implemented and complied with. You will define Processes, Standards, Procedures and guidelines in accordance the OHS Act and ISO 45001:2018. You will support and steer business stakeholders ensuring they can meet the objectives of the OHS Management System.

You will define OHS management system and system training requirements/criteria required in compliance with the OHS Act 85 of 1993, and ISO 45001:2018. You will plan/prepare Occupational Safety performance data, present results to Senior Management and be an active participating member in committees/forums as defined. You will be an active member of the BMW South Africa Audit Team and ensure all BMW Group auditing requirements are achieved, will identify legal and system non-compliances and ensure the appointed parties take sustainable corrective action timeously. You will contribute to Change Management by maintaining data for effective monitoring of the change management process. You will identify and secure agreements with your service providers, contractors, including certification bodies as prescribed

You will facilitate inspections/inquiries performed by the Department of Employment and Labour (DOEL) effectively. You will maintain audit, inspection and investigation ready status from relevant authorities e.g. DOEL, Certification Bodies and BMW Group. You will manage communication with authorities including DOEL, SAPS and appropriate Local authorities.

Minimum requirements:

  • Academic qualification in Safety Management. (B-Tech/NDip Safety Management)
  • Extensive training OHS Act, 85 of 1993 and Regulations.
  • Implementation of ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor.
  • OHS Training Facilitator, Assessor – Advantage.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.
  • RCAT/Cause Analysis/5WHY/8D Problem Solving.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years Occupational Safety Management experience in vehicle or similar manufacturing environment is mandatory.
  • At least 8 years working experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis and risk assessment.
